What is happening with medical errors in Greece?

Medical errors in our country are estimated at around 6,000 a year, though of course not all of them reach the courts. On the one hand, the event is often concealed from the patient or attributed to a natural consequence of their illness; on the other, patients do not want to get caught up in legal battles, believing they will be up against the Goliath of the system. However, from a scientific point of view, suicide is an extremely complex phenomenon influenced by various factors, such as psychiatric, environmental and genetic ones. In our country there are no studies that have investigated these factors, which should make us critical of any such correlations and exaggerations. Read more here

A few days ago, Deputy Minister of Health Marios Salmas announced the evaluation of private diagnostic laboratories and private clinics, with the aim of certifying them according to the age of their technological equipment, their medical and nursing staff, their hotel infrastructure and reports of medical errors. This intention of the Ministry is, for our country, the official continuation of a different course in the field of medical errors compared with the past. Read more here
